The player's uncle is unable to take care of his farm, so he hands over the responsibility of taking care of it to the player. The game starts with a scarecrow and provides the player with a farming tutorial. By selling crops/products, players earn coins that can be used to buy production buildings, pets and decorative items. In doing so, they can also gain experience points and use them to improve their level. As the game progresses, the player is introduced to Angus, who is a friend of the uncle and who provides fishing tutorials. Earlier in the game, the player is also introduced to Greg, who comes to your farm for items or places them in his "roadside store" where the player can buy them. Greg is a non-player character.

Players form small "neighborhoods" where members can help each other out when needed (for example, by requesting multiple items) and can chat with each other. Players can also trade goods with other friends or neighbors nearby.

Running a farm is hard work, and often thankless work, unless that farm happens to be a lovely piece of virtual land overseen by a helpful and chatty scarecrow. Sweeping the land lightly to harvest crops, feed livestock and make goods is relaxing, and growing your little farm into a thriving business is a huge accomplishment.
