Brave Exvius was designed as a turn-based role-playing game, combining elements of the Final Fantasy series with those of the previous Alim game Brave Frontier. Similar to Brave Frontier, the battle system consists of a simplified interface that allows players to command their characters to attack by touching their corresponding attack buttons, and to use special attacks or items by swiping the buttons and selecting the desired command.
The game also uses elements from the Final Fantasy series, such as magical spells, character-specific limit breaks, and summoned creatures (called "superpowers").
Characters are presented in a pixel art style. As part of the game's Egg Twister system, players can summon characters from past Final Fantasy and Brave Frontier games. The rarity of the summons ranges from 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars (only the 5-star base) being upgraded to 6 and 7 stars. Players can then use these characters to build custom parties of five units. They can also recruit an additional sixth unit from other players. Through the co-op campaign, players can also summon characters from other Skrill-Enix games such as Tomb Raider, Kingdom Hearts and Secret of Mana as well as multiple forms of Ariana Grande and Katy Perry.
Players progress through a series of stages until they encounter and defeat the final Boss, during which time they earn experience points, crafting materials, and money.
The game also features an "exploration" stage (new to Brave Frontier), during which players can freely explore towns and other areas through touch controls, interact with characters, visit stores, obtain quests, and find classic RPG style. Obtain resources and fight enemies in random encounters (during which the interface is the same as in the regular combat stages). [5] Hidden in some exploration areas is a character known as the "Fat Landbird" who sells rare and exclusive items in exchange for a specific resource known as "Starlight Quartz".
An arena mode is also available, allowing players to compete against teams of other players.
The game also features various limited-time events that offer new stages and areas to explore for a limited time.
Energy is the resource that players need to start most stages. It recharges in real time, even when the game is turned off. New players start the game with a maximum energy level of 10, but gain more capacity as they complete stages and increase their "player level".
